The Navy Department Library


Founded in 1800 by direction of President John Adams, the Navy Department Library is one of the oldest federal government libraries. Its 200,000 volumes are the nation's most highly concentrated and accessible collections of literature on the United States Navy.

Location: Washington Navy Yard, first floor of Building 44.

Hours:

Monday and Tuesday: 0900 - 1600 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.).
Wednesday: CLOSED
Thursday and Friday: 0900 - 1600 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
CLOSED: Weekends and Federal holidays.
