Activities sponsored by the Contemporary History Branch

Regular:

1. First Thursday: This is a meeting held on the first Thursday of every month for naval historians in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The gathering is informal and requires no paper presentation or monthly preparation. We simply keep one another informed regarding projects, professional problems and interests, and future plans. It also serves as a way to keep in contact.

2. Contemporary History Colloquia: These activities are usually held twice each year. The Branch organizes a panel of three or four historians from NHC, as well as outside historical activities and universities to address a specific issue of considerable significance. The results are published by NHC. In June the colloquium will address Russian/Soviet-American naval interaction during the Cold War. This panel is still in the planning stage.
