Curator Branch
Availability of artifacts for loan
The Curator Branch has a collection of over 110,000 objects relating
to the history of the United States Navy. These materials are available
for loan to Federal agencies and to non-federal organizations which are
qualified under the provisions of 10 USC 2572 and 10 USC 7545.
Because of resource limitations, the Curator Branch no longer provides
loan materials for decoration or generic materials except where such loans
directly benefit our long-term collections management goals.
At present, the Curator Branch is supporting requests from memorial
ships, pre-commissioning units, reunion groups, local short-term quarterdeck
requests, communities requesting materials relating to namesake ships, and
limited requests for materials related to specific historical displays.
Requests for materials which are not being honored are long-term requests
for generic quarterdeck materials and bells, office decoration, requests
for generic outdoor items, and loan requests of any type which require extensive
research on our part.
Federal law requires recipients of loans to defray shipping costs for
the material. As an alternative to shipment, the recipient can arrange to
have the material picked up directly from us. Any questions about loan of
materials should be directed to:
